Thai Studies is a one-year certificate program in English designed for current undergraduate students and individuals with at least a secondary education diploma. The program consists of courses on various aspects unique to Thai culture such as Thai language, literature, history, economics and politics. All courses are designed for small groups of students, both Thai and foreign, with emphases on current issues, an active exchange of ideas among students, and field trips. The Office of International Affairs at Thammasat University offers this multidisciplinary program in an environment that allows students to learn about and explore Thailand during their stay.

 
  Objectives  
 

The program has 4 main objectives :

 
 
  1. To provide an integrated and interdisciplinary program for Thai and foreign students who would like to study the Thai culture in its historical and contemporary dimension.

  2. To equip international students with necessary and adequate skills to begin Thai language communication.

  3. To promote an understanding of Thai society and culture among Thai and international students.

  4. To provide an environment that encourages Thai and international students to exchange their different world views and perspectives of culture. (although some courses are primarily or exclusively composed of international students.
 
  Certificate Requirement  
  To receive the Thai Studies Certificate, a student must take at least 30 credits (10 courses) from the course offerings including the compulsory 6 credits (2 courses) of Thai language study and must complete the courses with a ā€œCā€ average. Those who have competency in Thai beyond the basic level may waive the first language course upon approval. The certificate can be earned within 2 semesters, or extended as needed. Enrollment can begin in any semester, with Thai language as the only sequenced courses.
